William Giannone attended SUNY Fredonia, studied flute with Dr. Donald Hartman and was graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude.
After college, Bill enlisted in the US Army and became a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, NY.
While in the Army, he attended Teachers College of Columbia University and received a Master of Arts degree. At Columbia he studied with John Wummer, principal flute New York Philharmonic (1942 – 1965).
Bill also studied with Harold Bennett, principal flute with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (1944 – 1965).
Bill has attended workshops with Bernard Goldberg of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Marcel Moyse and did additional studies with Fred Morrone of the Met Opera Orchestra and Fred Heim of the New York Philharmonic.
Bill has performed with many groups on Long Island, including the American Concert Band, the Merrick Symphony Orchestra, the Five Towns Orchestra, the Nassau Community College Band and Orchestra, the Band of Long Island (BOLI) and the Valley Stream Community Band and Orchestra.
Bill is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) and is a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Rho Chi, Fredonia State) and was a Province Governor for the fraternity in the metro NYC area in the 1970’s.
